Organisation:

Parents Beyond Breakup (PBB) is a national Australian suicide prevention charity focussed on separating parents and grandparents. Why this group? Because they are the highest number of those taking their lives each year in Australia. In many ways, it's the group least well known about in the public sphere and least supported. PBB is the only national organisation providing this support in Australia and there’s nothing quite like it anywhere across the developed world; to this end, it's truly unique and is highly effective in its core task. In any given year 20-50% of new clients report recently feeling suicidal and over 98% of them no longer feel the same after receiving our support. Although it is hard to quantify, we estimate over 400 parents each year in Australia will not take that final step and remain there, and in their kids' lives, due to our support. PBB is non religious, non ideological, non political. Whilst we will advocate for our client parents and grandparents, our objectives are very clearly focussed on keeping mums and dads alive and in their kids lives - not changing the political or ideological landscape. PBB is gender inclusive in that male support services are designed and operated by men, for men and the women's services similarly designed by and for women, by women.

We need a new board member:

We’re looking to add a new member to our existing board to make up 9 directors in total. The role entails monthly meetings lasting up to 2 hours which generally take place around midday mid week. Outside of board meetings, we generally look to board members to volunteer a further 2-10 hours per month to provide insight and support to our growing organisation as befits their area of speciality and experience.

Tenure:

Initially, you would be stepping temporarily (‘a casual appointment’) into a position that ends this Dec’25. At that time, you may stand for re-election by our members at our AGM (Dec’25) to continue on for a further three year tenure.

Skills and Experience:

We are very much an equal opportunities organisation and encourage applications from all demographics, not least women and indigenous persons. Engagement will be meritorious and based on skills, experience and cultural fit. Culturally, attributes that make for awesome PBB team members include humility, pro-activity, tenaciousness, contribution and resistance to ideological pressures. Whilst we are open to all great applications, at this time PBB is particularly keen to see applications from Family Lawyers with at least 5 years practice experience in Australia. We are also particularly keen to see applications from WA, NT, SA, ACT and TAS.

Process:

  • Please send CV and Cover Letter to be considered for this volunteer role.
  • Appointment to the role of Director is subject to successful police clearance, after successful interviews with existing Board of Directors.

All new Board Members are required to comply with all legal requirements under ASIC and ACNC; and provide their directors ID number (DIN) or be willing to obtain one.

Start Date: ASAP
