Palmerston Association is a leading and respected not for profit provider of alcohol and other drug services. We have a rich and proud history of providing support through a range of services including counselling, groups, residential rehabilitation, and educational initiatives.

About the role

Cultural Supervision seeks to enhance practice competency and cultural safety for employees (both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal), ultimately fostering improved outcomes across the organisation. Cultural supervision assists to navigate the relationship between clinical and cultural matters impacting on employees and clients and assists with treatment planning that is culturally safe and secure, as well as improved cultural safety in the workplace.

About you

Palmerston’s Cultural Supervision Framework outlines that cultural supervision for should be provided by an Aboriginal person with acknowledged cultural authority combined with advanced supervisory skills. It is envisaged that cultural supervisors will also bring with them a range of experiences and cultural understandings. As a cultural supervisor you will liaise and work with line managers when required to seek the best outcome for a staff member.

Palmerston hopes to gain the expertise of Cultural supervisors with the following:

  • Connections with the lands on which Palmerston operates.
  • Relevant qualifications and cultural expertise.
  • Experience in or an understanding of the role, function, and importance of cultural supervision.
  • Experience in understanding Aboriginal culture and well-being.
  • Ability to provide an impartial and non-judgemental approach.

Cultural supervisors will hold an ABN and submit a tax invoice for services delivered. Rate per hour is negotiable and will be agreed before commencement. Expected price range is $100 to $150 per hour.

Process

Palmerston, in consultation with senior Aboriginal staff, will review all expressions of interest and will contact successful applicants for further discussion.

Prior to commencement all supervisors will be provided with a 2 hour induction training session (paid).
