Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO is a pivotal leader in the OzHelp team. They are responsible for ensuring the organisation is positioned to deliver exceptional services and support the Board and CEO to deliver and refine the strategic plan.

The COO is a member of the Executive leadership team and has considerable delegation and accountability. The role has a high level of autonomy under broad direction, and exercises judgement, discretion, and provides whole of organisation leadership.

The COO operates in a flexible way, role modelling accountability, integrity and agility, and problem solving with colleagues and stakeholders.

This role is located in Fyshwick, ACT.

The Organisation

OzHelp’s mission is to transform the lives of workers in high-risk, hard to reach industries, supporting our vision of an Australia without suicide.

OzHelp was established in 2001 after David O’Bryan, a young Canberra apprentice, took his own life. In the 20 years since, OzHelp has become a national leader in providing essential mental health and wellbeing services to Australia’s 3 million plus, workers in high-risk, hard to reach industries. OzHelp’s outreach approach takes support to the workplaces and communities across Australia, with a specific focus on the building and construction, and transport and logistics industries, and future phased entry into manufacturing, agriculture and mining.

OzHelp’s internal programs are clinically sound, with accreditation under the National Mental Health Standards and Suicide Prevention Australia, also having won various industry awards and being recognised as a Great Place to Work certified organisation. OzHelp’s services are changing conversations in Australian workplaces about the importance of mental health, wellbeing and psychological safety.

Purpose

The COO works closely with the CEO and Executive leadership team to ensure smooth day-to-day management of the company. The COO leads the Corporate team as well as providing leadership support to OzHelp team as a whole.

The COO is responsible for management of OzHelp’s financial performance including budgeting, reporting, forecasting, asset management, and the delivery of financial reporting to the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee and Board.

The COO also guides strategic planning, resource allocation and business improvement activities.

The Corporate team consists of a small group of highly motivated individuals delivering HR, data, ICT, governance and executive support.

Responsibilities and Expertise

Key areas of expertise and focus for this position are:

  • Leadership – an ability to operate autonomously, lead a small dynamic team and manage strategic and operational priorities.
  • Commercial acumen – a commercial background and financial management skills to manage budgets, grants and contracts, and develop new business opportunities.
  • Governance - an understanding of governance and business planning in a not-for-profit company and capacity to advise and work closely with Board and Committees
  • Relationships – Professional presence and an ability to network and build relationships with key partners and stakeholders.
  • Expertise - Tertiary qualifications in accounting, business administration or other relevant area

An attractive remuneration package, in line with the skills and experience of the candidate, will be negotiated.

This is designed as a full time role however part time or flexible arrangements can be considered.
