Board Member / Treasurer (Voluntary) - Remote / Work From Home

Overland Literary Journal

About Overland

Overland is a small not-for-profit literary journal and community of artists, writers, and readers. We challenge political and literary imaginations by maintaining equal standards of critical rigour and ethical practice. We are committed to diverse and working-class writers and their ideas, and to nurturing literary talent through publication, mentoring, and platforming voices.

As Australia’s only radical literary magazine, we have been showcasing brilliant and progressive fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and art for 70 years. Our mission is to foster new, original, and progressive writing exploring the relationship between politics, culture, and literature, and to bring that work to as many people as possible. We achieve this through our triannual print journal (publishing essays, stories and poetry), our online magazine publishing commentary several days each week, hosting major literary competitions, holding events, running residency programs and more.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest to join the board as Treasurer or as a general board member. In relation to the Treasurer role, we are keen to hear from persons with experience and skills in the following:

  • Financial or accounting experience, particularly in the not-for-profit
    sector.

  • Commitment to contribute to board decision-making and board activities throughout the year.
  • Supporting and advocating for underrepresented and new
    voices in Australian media.

In relation to the general board member role, we are particularly keen to hear from persons with experience and skills in organisational management or governance, especially in the not-for-profit sector and/or the creative industries. We are also particularly keen to hear from persons with experience and skills in the area of fundraising, grants, and philanthropy.
