headspace is a world-first youth mental health initiative that supports young people who are going through a tough time; whether it’s depression, anxiety, relationship break-ups or alcohol and other drug issues. The youth-friendly services at headspace are aimed at teenagers and young adults in recognition of the fact that 75 percent of mental disorders emerge before the age of 25 years.

About the job

Join the headspace Sunshine clinical team as a Senior Mental Health Clinician, where you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting young people with complex mental health needs - including those at risk of self-harm or suicide - within an enhanced primary care setting.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver youth-centred, evidence-based care - managing intake, assessments and complex case coordination.
  • Partner with Emergency Departments to improve access and support for young people in crisis.
  • Build strong connections with local services, advocate for headspace, and support community engagement.
  • Keep detailed, compliant case notes and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and collaborative team culture.
  • Engage in clinical reviews, service development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills and experience

The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

  • Approved tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing) and full registration with AHPRA or AASW (or eligibility for).
  • Passion for improving youth mental health outcomes and extensive experience in mental health care, assessments, and crisis intervention.
  • Demonstrated expertise in service systems, legislation, and government policies related to youth mental health and substance use.
  • Leadership skills, including supervision of staff, leading group interventions, and community engagement activities.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and build stakeholder partnerships.
