About the job

The Financial Controller will oversee the day-to-day financial operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records. This role is critical for the financial health and regulatory compliance of the company, requiring strong technical, analytical, leadership skills, and a strategic mindset.

Reporting to Chief Financial Officer you will:

  • Financial Management – Oversee finance operations including payroll accounting, revenue recognition, month-end processes, and cash flow management to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Auditing & Compliance – Manage financial audits, statutory reporting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls to maintain transparency and accuracy.
  • Leadership – Lead, mentor, and develop the financial control accounting team, ensuring high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Business Partnering – Provide strategic financial advice, budgeting support, and risk analysis to internal stakeholders, fostering effective collaboration.
  • Systems & Process Improvement – Enhance financial policies, reporting systems, and internal controls to drive efficiency and operational excellence.

Skills and experience

The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with CPA/CA accreditation
  • Proven experience in financial control, external audits, statutory reporting, cash flow management, GST/FBT submissions, and application of AASB standards in a not-for-profit setting.
  • Strong technical skills in ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365), financial statement preparation, advanced Excel, and process improvement to enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, engage stakeholders effectively, and provide strategic financial insights.
  • Proactive and solutions-focused, with strong decision-making, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate changing funding landscapes while ensuring financial sustainability and compliance.
  • Builds strong relationships with stakeholders, translates complex financial data into clear insights, and aligns financial strategies with the organisation’s mission and impact.
