This Fixed-term, part time role (0.6FTE) commencing in January 2024 and will lead and manage the community based Strong Culture, Strong Place, Strong Families Research Project. This project is funded until 30/06/2024 and is awaiting confirmation of extension to Dec 31, 2025. It aims to co-design and co-produce a framework for measuring culture and wellbeing in Indigenous Communities and peoples of the Kimberley. As part of the project, a team of Community Research Practitioners (CRPs) have been trained in research skills and you will guide them in gathering research data from various communities around the Kimberley on the effect of practicing culture on their wellbeing.
This role is able to be performed flexibly and ideally the successful applicant would be based in the Kimberley for ease of coordination of the research activities.
You are also responsible for the coordination of the research team that includes researchers from CAEPR and contracted research support workers collaborating with the CRPs.
The project is jointly funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA), KALACC, the Australian National University Centre of Aboriginal Economic Policy Research and Kimberley Communities. It aims to provide knowledge of the links between the strength of Indigenous cultural practice and wellbeing and allows the measurement and reporting of the impacts of culture and cultural practice on wellbeing. The Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre [KALACC] is the region’s peak Aboriginal Cultural organisation, supporting the traditional cultural practices of the 30 Aboriginal language groups of the Kimberley region. KALACC prides itself on being the premier body in Australia for the maintenance of traditional Indigenous culture.
KALACC is funded from various sources such as Commonwealth, State and philanthropic grants and income from research projects and consultancies.
