The Opportunity

In this permanent, full-time role, you will lead the team in delivering quality care to our residents. You will provide hands-on clinical management of the facility, including overseeing the Care Coordinator, nursing staff, carers and support staff. You will work closely with medical and allied health professionals from the local Pika Wiya Health Service as required. Traditional healers also visit Wami Kata residents when required.

About Us

Wami Kata is a Commonwealth-funded Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care provider. We provide 32 residential beds including respite care. Our residents come from a range of backgrounds and communities throughout Australia. This diversity is represented in our staff, with 77% Aboriginal staff who support the cultural care and safety of residents. We were Founded in the early 1960s by Umeewarra Mission, Wami Kata is situated on the Davenport Community, close to Port Augusta. Wami Kata is an independent association which is a non-profit, overseen by an elected Board of Management with daily operations managed onsite. We pride ourselves on our provision of quality care in a culturally appropriate setting and are committed to quality improvements enhancing the facility and improving the comfort and lives of residents.

The Salary Package

  • Salary Package of approx. $98 - $108K + Super, (Equiv to $50-55 / hr) depending on your experience and qualifications
  • Relocation assistance benefits - cost of travel to be reimbursed
  • 1 month assistance with accommodation until you find a permanent home

The Ideal Candidate

Indigenous applicants are strongly encouraged. To be successful in this role, you will be an RN, with a demonstrated understanding of Aged Care Accreditation, excellent business management and people management skills and experience in a similar role. Developed communication skills with an ability to inspire and motivate staff as well as work side by side with the Service Manager to manage stakeholder responsibilities. Experience living and working remotely is essential.

Position Requirements

  • Must have Australian working rights
  • RN with current AHPRA registration
  • Previous experience running an Aged Care Facility, with a detailed understanding of current Aged Care Quality Standards
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate positively and effectively with all people.
  • Previous experience successfully working with Indigenous people and clients
  • Ability to successfully work and live remotely.
