
Open Doors Youth Service provides support to LGBTIQAP+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy young people with diverse bodies, genders, and/or sexualities aged 12 to 24 across South East Queensland.
We are currently looking for a youth support worker to deliver community based psychosocial intervention services to LGBTIQ+ young people aged 12 to 24 seeking support for moderate to severe problematic alcohol and other drug use.

Key responsibilities
- Delivery of evidenced-based psychosocial interventions such as harm reduction, case management, care coordination, wrap around social supports, and supported referrals.
- Support young people to develop psychological and/or practical skills to reduce problematic alcohol or other drug use and/or harms, and improve health and wellbeing.
- Developing collaborative goal-oriented case management plans for young people based on their strengths, resilience and protective factors line with their personal goals and treatment plans.
- Deliver psychosocial groups that facilitate access to information and support connection to peers, services and their community.
- Conduct AOD screening assessments, including comprehensive risk assessments.
- Provide flexible supports in the community that meet clients access needs, including outreach and use of interpreters.
- Coordinate with partner organisations and referral networks to facilitate access to other services that supporting the achievement of client goals.
- Develop support and referral networks that may be accessed and utilised by LGBTIQ+ young people and their families.
- Work collaboratively with services and community to develop projects that provide support for LGBTIQ+ young people and their families.
Qualifications requirements
- Relevant qualifications in the field of Youth Work (Diploma minimum) and/or Degree in Human or Community Services
- A current driver’s licence
- A current Queensland Blue Card or ability to acquire a Blue Card
- COVID 19 vaccination certificate
- Two relevant references directly linked to experience working in human services
Selection Criteria

- Knowledge and understanding of the experiences of LGBTIQAP+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy young people.
- Demonstrated ability to provide individual support work to young people, including risk assessment, case management, care coordination and goal planning.
- Knowledge of evidence-based alcohol and other drug psychosocial interventions and ability to apply prevention, intervention and harm minimisation principles.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and deliver group programs to young people.
- Ability to appropriately respond to the age and developmental needs and requirements of young people, including factors that contribute to vulnerability such intersectionality, homelessness, mental health, family violence, out of home care, and trauma.
- Knowledge of relevant referral networks and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders including schools, government bodies, and community organisations.
- Comprehensive understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identities, culture and protocols, and the ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
