
Open Doors Youth Service provides support to LGBTIQAP+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy young people with diverse bodies, genders, and/or sexualities aged 12 to 24 across South East Queensland.
We are currently looking for a referral and intake worker to undertake screening, assessment, brief interventions, and coordination of care pathways for LGBTIQ+ young people aged 12 to 24 years who are seeking support from Open Doors Youth Service.

About the role
- Join Queensland's leading LGBTIQ+ youth service, supporting young people since 2003
- Experienced Intake Officer required to work minimum 15 hours per week in busy specialist Youth Service
- Centrally based in Fortitude Valley
Key responsibilities of the Intake Officer role will include:
- Respond to inquiries about programs, services, and support available from Open Doors Youth Service in an informative, professional, and timely manner
- Maintain up-to-date, detailed, and accurate client referral and case file records
- Be a welcoming, engaging, and supportive first point of contact for all new referrals into ODYS
- Determine service and program eligibility and assist clients to access the most appropriate supports to match their needs.
- Facilitate the triage of referrals, ensuring that clients with urgent support needs or access barriers are identified and prioritised.
- Facilitate intake appointments and conduct risk and needs assessments to determine the type and level of support required.
- Provide referrals and new clients with clear and accessible information about their rights and responsibilities, support and services available to them, and how they can engage with ODYS
- Provide brief interventions to young people who present with immediate time sensitive support needs
- Facilitate the successful warm handover of young people to ODYS programs and youth workers
Applicant RequiREMENTS
- Relevant qualifications in the field of Youth Work (Diploma minimum) and/or Degree Human Services
- A current C class driver’s licence
- A current Queensland Blue Card or ability to acquire a Blue Card
- COVID 19 vaccination certificate
- Two relevant references directly linked to experience working with young people

SELECTION CRITERIA

- Knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the risk and protective factors experienced by LGBTIQ+ young people
- Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments, psychosocial needs assessments, brief interventions, warm referrals, and the coordination of effective care pathways.
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport quickly and effectively, and the ability to be flexible and adapt to meet clients varying needs to maximise their participation and engagement.
- Demonstrated experience working within a multidisciplinary team environment and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, referrers and colleagues.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant referral networks and the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders including schools, government bodies, and community organisations.
- Ability to develop detailed knowledge of programs and services available and comprehensive understanding of the various eligibility requirements.
- Demonstrated experience using a client management system or database and ability to maintain detailed, accurate and up to date client records.

Open Doors Youth Service has been in operation since 2003 providing support to young people who identify as part of the LGBTIQ+ community and their families. We support young people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, Pansexual, Sistergirl and Brotherboy aged 12 - 24 across South East Queensland.
