Laverton CIS opened in April 2015 as an on-call safe house for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence or crisis and promotes the safety and wellbeing of women and children in the Laverton community and surrounding area.

Role purpose

Provide therapeutic counselling and emotional support to women and their families in the community affected by domestic, family, and sexual violence, with the aim to:

  • Improve personal safety and support recovery from trauma through individualised counselling and therapeutic interventions in Laverton (primarily) and Leonora (secondary location)
  • Address the psychological effects of trauma and enhance emotional and physical wellbeing
  • Provide holistic, family-centred counselling that supports children and other family members impacted by violence
  • Strengthen psychosocial capacity in individuals experiencing or at risk of domestic and family violence
  • Support individuals to reconnect with community, focus on personal strengths, foster healthy relationships, and maintain wellbeing

On offer to you

  • $90,277.21 - $96,825.71 (inclusive of all allowances/loadings), plus super
  • Full-time fixed term position until December 2026
  • Above award salary $43.08 - $46.35 per hour
  • Remote allowance - $2 extra per hour
  • 4 weeks' annual leave plus 2 weeks off over the festive season
  • Relocation allowance up to $3000

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver trauma-informed counselling services to women and families experiencing or at risk of domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV)
  • Facilitate individual and group therapeutic sessions aimed at early intervention, recovery, and education on protective behaviours, especially with a focus on supporting pre-adolescent children and youth in community settings
  • Establish, foster, and maintain strong working links with relevant Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal service providers to develop and maintain effective services and referral pathways to families at risk of DFSV
  • Apply evidence-based therapeutic models (e.g., CBT, ACT, narrative therapy) to support emotional regulation, healing, and resilience building in individuals affected by DFSV
  • Contribute to a workplace culture that supports good practice, teamwork, learning, One Tree’s Code of Ethics, and quality service

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Be eligible to work in Australia and willing to relocate to Laverton, WA
  • Valid WA Working with Children Check
  • Satisfactory National Police Clearance
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Relevant certificate or diploma in social work, counselling, children or community services
