About the Therapeutic Community

The position is based at Lower Plenty in a residential treatment setting utilising the Therapeutic Community model of care. Residents are encouraged to support themselves and others in the personal change process as well as having a multidisciplinary team approach. The program consists of group-based treatment, exploration of values and goals and skill development.

About this opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and versatile individual to deliver evidence-based training modules to our Residents through psychoeducational group work facilitation.

This role would suit someone who has experience in transferring/imparting knowledge for skills development whilst also facilitating group discussions and managing dynamics of disadvantaged or challenged group of individuals.

Duties include but are not limited to…

  • Deliver evidence-based training modules to residents.
  • Assist individuals to develop skills and knowledge in areas such as relapse prevention, problem solving, emotion regulation and developing healthy relationships.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational groups e.g. life skills, relapse prevention, use of social media, social networks, and skills for reintegrating back into the wider community following residential rehabilitation.
  • Monitor and maintain resident records of attendance, application of learning activities and provide feedback as required.
  • Ensure training is planned and delivered in a timely, effective, and efficient manner, consistent with organisational objectives.
  • Support Senior Clinicians in facilitating psychoeducation groups by up-skilling them through job-shadowing, discussing module materials and scenarios, observation, and feedback.
  • Liaise with and support Volunteers who facilitate literacy and numeracy sessions with residents.

A week in the role

Key Selection Criteria

We are looking for an experienced and passionate trainer/group facilitator to support our residents in practical skills and knowledge development for improved self-esteem and empowerment.

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following:

  • Relevant Health, Social or Welfare related degree/tertiary qualification with one-years’ experience and/or substantive experience or an Associate Diploma with relevant experience.
  • AOD skill Set or commitment to obtain within 12 months of employment,* (Refer Appendix A)
  • Training experience (minimum 2 years) and demonstrated ability to deliver psychoeducational content to disadvantaged or challenged group of individuals.
  • Experience in working with a diverse population including people who have previously had poor experiences with education and staff who have varying needs and capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage clients in dialogue with positive outcomes.
  • Experience in transferring/imparting knowledge for skills development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of record keeping methods, administrative procedures, task coordination, and confidentiality and privacy protocols.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, balance competing demands and to prioritise work effectively. Capacity to continuously review and make responsive changes where needed to ensure a high standard of service delivery.

*Appendix A (AOD Competencies)

OHV requires staff in clinical positions to have the following competencies (or their equivalent). Where people do not already have these competencies, OHV will invest in the staff’s professional development by providing them through our registered training organisation (RTO).
The competencies required in the first 12 months of employment are:

  • CHCAOD001 – Work in an alcohol and other drugs context
  • CHCAOD004 – Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues
  • CHCAOD006 – Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues
  • CHCAOD009 – Develop and review individual alcohol and other drugs treatment plans
