Oakhill College is an Independent Catholic Secondary School conducted in the Lasallian tradition, with an enrolment of 2,000 students, boys Years 7 to 10, co-educational in Years 11 and 12. Oakhill College is located in Castle Hill, NSW, and offers a wide range of subject choices and extra-curricular activities.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants for the following temporary position, commencing as soon as possible in Term 1, 2022 for 30 hours per week.

Oakhill College is seeking to appoint an innovative Learning Support Teaching Assistant with excellent communication skills to support students with additional learning needs.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate experience in the areas of:

  • Qualifications and/or experience in working with students with additional learning needs (2 or more years’ experience is desirable)
  • Sound understanding of the learning and social/emotional needs of students with additional learning needs
  • Provide learning support to individual and small groups of students as directed by the classroom teacher
  • Support teachers in the development of appropriate learning resources
  • Provision of support in practical activities and excursions, including personal care if appropriate
  • A willingness to learn new skills in relation to supporting students
  • Experience with the MultiLit program (desirable)
  • Ability to communicate well with staff and students
  • Ability to work in a team as well as being self-motivated
  • Effective ICT, literacy and numeracy skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Providing feedback and reporting on student learning
  • Providing administrative support to the Learning Support Team
  • A sound knowledge of current pedagogy in the diversity space
  • Willingness to contribute to the co-curricular life of the College

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold a Certificate III or IV in Education Support &/or equivalent (preferred)
  • Be available to work across 4 or 5 days a week during term time
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding and commitment to the Mission of the Catholic School
  • Be supportive of the Lasallian ethos of the College
  • Adhere to the Colleges Safeguarding Standards and Child Protection policies and procedures
  • Be an experienced, innovative, and engaging team member
  • Teach with excellence, professionalism, and commitment
  • Have an ability to relate to boys with a practical knowledge of boy’s education issues and initiatives in the foundation years (Stage 4 and 5)
  • Be committed to professional growth and development of excellence
