NCEC is an award winning Social Enterprise based in North East Brisbane. We generate employment for our members with disabilities and those who work alongside them, by mowing public parks, gardening and landscaping.

About the role:

A Gardener is sought for NCEC's Parks and Maintenance Team.  Work includes maintaining Brisbane City Council and Transport and Main Roads Parks.

The ideal candidate will have a kind and cooperative way of working with others and have experience in grass-cutting, gardening and/or landscaping.

The gardener will be responsible for maintaining contract requirements under guidance of NCEC gardening supervisors and the NCEC coordinator.

(NB Leading hand duties are not required but may be added to this role for the right candidate).

Benefits and Perks:

The position is part-time 2-3 days per week, with more days/hours available over the summer period. It will suit someone wanting to work part-time but given our growing business - we may be open to offering additional days over time. We are also open to offering this position at a casual rate with the applicable 25% loading.

Remuneration and conditions are according to level 3-5 of the Gardening and Landscaping Award 2020 (pending experience) - including leading hand and other relevant loadings. Above award payment and generous salary packaging benefits are included in the role.

Selection Criteria:

  • Ability to work alongside others and be a supportive team player.
  • Expertise in park and garden maintenance activities e.g. zero turn operation (minimum 1 years experience), line trimming, edge trimming, weed spraying etc. 
  • Ability to plan and prioritise and report on work as set out in works contract
  • Ability to organise self and work team (if applicable)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take supervision and direction from Parks Managers and Coordinator of N.C.E.C.
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues and customers in a clear, effective and genuine manner
  • A demonstrated ability in ensuring compliance with health and safety systems
  • Oversee day to day equipment maintenance and service scheduling 
  • A commitment to a work environment and culture inclusive of diversity and disability and ability to demonstrate this through either work or personal life experience. 
  • Horticultural / Landscaping certificate - not required but advantageous.
  • Have a current Driver's License and ability to drive ute with trailer
  • Have or be willing to apply for a National Police Check or NDIS worker screening check and Blue Card (successful check will be required for start)
  • Have or be willing to apply for ACDC Chemical Application Certificate and First Aid Certificate
