Yingiya Mark Guyula is the Independent Member for Mulka in the Northern Territory Parliament. His office is currently recruiting a part-time staff person to provide admin assistance in the Nhulunbuy Electorate Office. The electorate of Mulka encompasses much of North-East Arnhem Land and the office is based in Nhulunbuy. The Member for Mulka, now in his second term, campaigned on a platform of Treaty and Yolŋu Rom Ngurrungu (Yolŋu Law First). The Member for Mulka is committed to supporting all constituents: across all clans, Yolŋu and Balanda (non- Yolŋu).

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Admin Support role serves the electorate and provides support to the Member for Mulka in the execution of his responsibilities as the MLA representing the whole Mulka electorate (Gove Peninsula communities, Elcho Island, Ramingining, Milingimbi and many homelands).

The duties and responsibilities of the Admin Support include:

  • Front of house electorate role engaging with constituents concerning a wide range of community issues.
  • Providing high level confidential secretarial and administrative support services for the Member for Mulka.
  • Assisting the Member for Mulka with the day to day operations and management of the electorate office.
  • If required preparing reports, briefs and correspondence related to the business of the electorate, for the information and attention of the Member for Mulka.
  • Ensuring the Member for Mulka is informed of developments within the electorate particularly during absences from the electorate on parliamentary business.
  • If required, assisting the Member with the management of the Members accounts and Acquittal System records.

Selection criteria includes:

  • Respect for Yolŋu country and diversity of clans and people in the Mulka electorate;
  • Strong cross-cultural and interpersonal communication skills;
  • High level office management and general administration skills;
  • High level of tact, discretion, diplomacy and confidentiality; and the ability to diffuse contentious situations;
  • Computer literacy in PCs and networked systems;
  • High level written and oral communication skills;
  • The ability to work without supervision;
  • Ability to carry out research on matters relating to the Member’s electorate duties and responsibilities;
  • Local knowledge, including the boundaries, geography and demographics of the electorate.
  • Knowledge of the MLA’s role and function in the Assembly;
  • Knowledge of the respective roles and functions provided by federal, state/territory and local government agencies.

Salary range: (equivalent of) NTPS AO4 - AO5 FTE.
