The New South Wales Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) in association with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation New South Wales Branch (ANMF NSW Branch) seeks a Manager to join our Organising Private Hospitals and Aged Care (OPAC) team on a permanent full-time basis.

In this role you will lead the multi-disciplinary OPAC team to deliver Strategic Plan objectives in accordance with the union’s Theory of Winning.

To be considered for this role you require:

Selection criteria

Essential:

  • Management experience in a union leading change and growth;
  • A demonstrated record of successful management of organising and support for staff shifting from representation to organising, including theory of organising;
  • A demonstrated record of successful organising within the union movement;
  • A commitment to the NSWNMA and its leadership;
  • Analytical and interpretative skills relating to industry participation, employer tactics and behaviour and competitive unionism;
  • Project management skills especially concerning the identification of goals and resources required to achieve outcomes;
  • A capacity to work with a diverse range of personalities and skills in order to develop and advocate Strategic Plan imperatives and the union’s Theory of Winning;
  • Demonstrated ability in campaign crisis management; leadership of multiple complex activities simultaneously, balancing pursuit of strategic goals with necessary attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage sensitive relationships and exercise high level political judgment to protect and advance the position and reputation of the Association;
  • Deep understanding of union principles and culture and ability to translate these into campaign development and implementation;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing an appropriate balance between the organising and industrial imperatives when implementing campaigns;
  • Ability to develop and achieve internal and membership endorsement of an industry or sector-wide industrial strategy leading to implementation;
  • Leadership disposition and influencer, modelling NSWNMA values;
  • Ability to write for varying audiences and appropriately manage the tension between sometimes competing organising and industrial language in member communications;
  • Experience in strategically leading and integrating the various elements of union bargaining campaigns sector-wide or in large companies in the federal jurisdiction: organising, industrial, communications and political;
  • Track record in managing complex relationships with employers, peak industrial bodies and external suppliers of services to an organisation; and
  • Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination requirements.

Desirable:

  • Recognised qualifications in the field of Nursing or Midwifery.
  • Industrial Relations Tertiary Qualifications.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience leading high level negotiations at an industry-wide as well as employer-specific level.
