The New South Wales Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) in association with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation New South Wales Branch (ANMF NSW Branch) seeks a Public Relations Lead to join our Campaigns and Communications team on a permanent full-time basis.

The primary purpose of the Lead - Public Relations role is to enhance the reputation and influence of the NSWNMA and its members through a variety of strategic external communications and public relations activities.

You will be working for a highly respected association and one of the strongest and largest unions nationally. We have a successful track record of being a strong advocate for our members which is evident by our year-on-year membership growth.

In this role you will:

Lead a team to ensure consistent messaging in communications and develop and coordinate political strategy in collaboration with the union’s leadership. This includes: strategic advocacy and public relations initiatives to influence policy and legislative matters, at national and state levels.

This role will draw on your:

  • demonstrated experience as a strong people manager who will bring out the best of your team
  • best practice project and change management to deliver continuous improvements
  • strategic planning capability to develop communications and campaign plans that advance the interests of members
  • collaboration capacity across internal NSWNMA teams to execute a strategy
  • ability to role-model the Association’s values and work ethics
  • ability to provide high-level political and strategic advice
  • ability to research and map information to inform political campaigns
  • a strong understanding of the political landscape and proven track record lobbying parliamentary and political staff
  • ability to persuasively articulate an advocacy position via government submissions, briefing papers or direct engagement
  • ability to exercise judgement and discretion within politically sensitive environments.

To be considered for this position you require:

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications and/or demonstrated capability from relevant experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in media, corporate affairs and/or politics.
  • Demonstrated success in an organisational communications role, including effective strategic analysis and crisis management skills.
  • Proven experience of managing multiple external stakeholders concurrently on a range of issues. (5) Experience managing competing interests simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to deliver considered recommendations to senior leadership and successful public relations strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills at all levels.

Relevant tertiary education:

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications and/or demonstrated capability from relevant experience.

Desirable:

Experience in a senior external/government relations role, or a management-related field.
