Volunteer Law Students

Northern Suburbs Community Legal Centre Inc
  • Based in Mirrabooka.

About us

Northern Suburbs Community Legal Centre (NSCLC) is inviting expressions of interest from law students seeking to volunteer and gain practical legal experience in the family violence space.

The Women’s Resource and Engagement Network (WREN) is the specialist family violence program of NSCLC and is made up of lawyers, social workers, a financial counsellor, a paralegal and client services officer.

We work collaboratively to provide holistic, wrap around legal and non-legal support to women who have recently experienced family violence, for early intervention and for resolution of issues directly relating to that family violence.

Why volunteer at NSCLC with the WREN team?

  • Our volunteers will be given comprehensive training and mentoring by our senior lawyers, and opportunities to develop their practical legal skills.
  • Our social workers will also provide education and training around working with vulnerable clients who have experienced significant trauma.
  • Volunteers enable us to provide more resources and legal services to women experiencing family violence.

See attachment for more details on the variety of work our volunteers participate in.

What we are looking for:

  • Law students in their second last year of studies
  • A commitment to volunteering a minimum of one day a week for 6 months
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • No prior legal experience necessary

We will be inviting suitable candidates to attend a group interview with the WREN team on Friday 5 July 2024.

Please see the position description attached.

We value diverse people with different life experiences, skills and backgrounds including people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, LGBTIQA+, neurodiverse and people from all cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Don't hesitate to reach out if you need a hand with your application.
