At its core NPY Women’s Council is about family and community – Walytja. Our purpose is to work with women, children and their families of the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara region in central Australia. Our role is to work side by side and help increase their capacity to lead safe and healthy lives with improved life choices.

The Domestic and Family Violence Service, also known as ‘Atunypa Wiru Minyma Uwankaraku’ (Good Protection for All Women), works from a ‘holistic and relational’ standpoint and is structured so that caseworkers are supported to develop relationships in the communities in which they work using a community development approach.

The Malparara-Malparara project within the DFVS, is a group of Anangu women who have come together to create culturally safe ways of engaging in healing and violence prevention work, with an emerging focus on engaging with young women.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This position is funded under the Fourth Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children. The role is based in Alice Springs with some travel to communities in the NPY Region.

The Malparara-Malparara Project Support Worker will work alongside the Project Officer to provide relational, administrative and logistical support for Malparara-Malparara project participants and other Anangu staff who are employed in a variety of ways by the DFVS. The Project Support Officer will also assist with the organisation and facilitation of workshops, and the documentation and creative development of resources that emerge from these workshops. There may also be some work providing direct assistance to caseworkers, and/or supporting Anangu workers to do this.

You will work within a supportive, trauma-informed framework and we provide a comprehensive orientation program. You will receive best practice clinical supervision and professional development that includes vicarious trauma, case management and four-wheel drive training. We also provide critical incident de-briefing and a range of counselling services to support you.

In addition to this we offer a generous remuneration package. You will receive an above award salary, salary packaging benefits, 32 days (pro-rata) of annual leave and 15 days (pro-rata) of personal leave. We also provide use of a company vehicle when travelling remotely along with travel allowance.
