About the role / Position Purpose

This role sits within the Pro Vice Chancellor, Student Experience portfolio which includes Student Success, Indigenous Education, Chaplaincy, Libraries, Student Life and Wellbeing.

This position reports to the National Director, Indigenous Education or PVC-SE and is responsible for development and delivery of programs and initiatives to support Indigenous students across the student life cycle. This position will provide leadership, maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners and offer strategic advice on matters relating to student equity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading the Indigenous Education portfolio to develop, coordinate and implement strategies for the delivery of programs and initiatives to prospective and current Indigenous students 
  • Provide key strategic advice to the Student Experience leadership team and key University forums which address Indigenous student equity and access issues in collaboration with the National Director Indigenous Education.  
  • Establish the development and implementation of university-wide strategies to support Indigenous students in teaching and learning, research and community engagement opportunities
  • Establish and build strong relationships with key University stakeholders and provide professional advice to other outreach providers and academic and professional areas supporting student equity
  • Prepare government reports related to Indigenous Student Support including the Indigenous Student Success Program (ISSP)
  • Coordinates student progression data for the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Education Consultative Group (ATSIECG) to review, as well as coordinate review of ISSP spend and assist with grant writing applications to governments and funding bodies. 
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of a National Reconciliation Action Plan in association with the ATSIECG (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Consultative Group) and People & Culture, targeting specific objectives and outcomes
  • Maximise the use of contemporary technologies and systems to further improve engagement with prospective and current Indigenous students.
  • Review research and policy development in relevant national and international Indigenous Education  initiatives to disseminate best practice models, appropriate programs and advice
  • Assist in the development of training modules for students on Aboriginal Cultural Safety and Cultural Security Training and co-facilitate workshops with the National Director of Indigenous Education, including contributing to the creation and development of online assessments and learning materials for the Cultural Capability and Competency Framework, along with designing new and innovative methods in presenting workshops, promotional opportunities and resources.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Supportive of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.
  • A post graduate qualification in education or a relevant area of equivalent competency.
  • Substantial and extensive management experience in the strategic development of equity and access initiatives, preferably gained in a university environment or similar large and diverse organisation.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a role that includes team and project leadership and the management and development of people.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar position, engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities and agencies.
  • Extensive experience in coordinating, developing, implementing and evaluating training workshops, delivering online learning materials and professional development presentations. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to consult at all levels an develop strong internal and external relationships with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent planning, organisational and project management skills, included demonstrated ability to contribute to long term planning and key strategic direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with a willingness to support others and embrace new responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret complex data, present findings and advocate positions to Senior and/or Executive management/committees.
  • Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, online collaboration and project management tools and common software applications.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the Australian tertiary and school education sectors, particularly relating to students and equity.
