The Northern Land Council (NLC) was established 50 years ago under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act in 1976, to assist Aboriginal people in the Top End of the Northern Territory to acquire and manage their traditional lands, waters and seas.

About the Role

As part of the Governance, Compliance and Risk (GCR) team, this position is responsible for implementing, reviewing and continually improving key governance functions of the Northern Land Council (NLC), in particular the NLC’s planning and reporting framework and policy framework. Working collaboratively across the organisation, you will think strategically and provide advice, and develop and deliver training to ensure governance arrangements align with best practice and Commonwealth requirements.

The GCR team oversees adherence to policies, manages risks, and monitors compliance with legislative and good governance standards to safeguard organisational integrity.

What you will bring

You will have expertise working within a corporate governance function and skills in advanced data analysis to develop evidence-based solutions. You will also have an eye for detail to accurately and effectively administer registers and reviewing corporate documents. You will have proven track record of effective team supervision, coupled with excellent communication and highly developed time management skills. In addition to this, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification or minimum two years relevant industry experience working within a corporate governance function

  • A minimum annual salary of $106,708 (negotiable based on experience) plus 14% superannuation and district allowance

  • Generous leave entitlements such as 5 weeks annual leave, 18 days personal leave per annum, and paid Christmas shut down
