Senior Project Lawyer

Northern Community Legal Centre

The Northern Community Legal Centre (NCLC) is a dynamic not-for-profit community legal centre which operates in one of the fastest growing areas of Melbourne, and has a significant catchment including the Merri-bek, Hume and Mitchell Shire Local Government Areas. The NCLC operates from a central office located in Broadmeadows with outreach clinics to other service areas. NCLC ensures services accessible to all the community by providing legal advice, education and referrals. However, NCLC recognises that there are members of our community who suffer serious disadvantage and has prioritised marginalised people who have the least resources and ability to access legal assistance including; newly arrived and refugees; survivors/victims of family violence, young people, people with mental health issues, and have aligned our service delivery accordingly.

The Senior Project Lawyer is responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of NCLC’s ‘Young Women's Economic Empowerment’ Project. This project aims to:

  • Enhance the safety, stability and improve the financial status of young women subjected to family violence, through streamlined access to legal assistance, with barriers to economic security identified and acted upon through broader systemic advocacy.
  • Have young women participate in an Economic Capability Program (ECP), to be supported to recover from experienced trauma, build upon protective factors, identify strategies to prevent further economic abuse and take action to enhance financial independence and stability into the future.
  • Share learnings and provide training to other agencies delivering youth programs equipping them to incorporate economic empowerment-building activities into their own programs to ensure that more young women will be able to live their lives free from violence and live financially independent of abusive partners.

We are seeking a passionate Senior Lawyer with at least four years post admission experience.

Salary between $102,544 - $107,079 (depending on experience) plus employer funded superannuation.

  • Salary packaging including additional packaging available for meals/accommodation.
  • Flexible work arrangements and generous leave conditions.
  • Access to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), including access for staff members’ immediate family.
