The Nurse Midwife Health Program Australia (NMHPA) is dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of nurses, midwives, and students by offering free, confidential, and compassionate support services. With a vision of better health for healthcare workers and safer care for the public, NMHPA operates nationally via telehealth and in-person services from various hubs across Australia. Funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care, NMHPA is a key pillar in supporting the nursing and midwifery workforce.

NMHPA are seeking an experienced Risk and Compliance Officer to manage quality assurance, risk management, policy development and compliance systems across NMHPA. This part-time role 0.8 FTE ( 4 days per week) offers flexibility, with hybrid or remote working options available. This is a 2 year fixed term contract, annual salary $130k (negotiable) pro-rata plus 11.5% superannuation. Access to generous Salary Packaging benefits.

About the Role

As the Risk and Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Championing a culture of continuous improvement, risk awareness, and compliance within NMHPA.
  • Providing expert guidance to the Leadership Team and NMHPA Board on quality, risk, policy and compliance matters.
  • Overseeing NMHPA’s risk management profile, incident reporting, and compliance frameworks.
  • Ensuring NMHPA meets all statutory and regulatory obligations.
  • Developing and maintaining quality, risk, and compliance policies, audits, and internal reporting mechanisms.
  • Leading the Quality, Risk & Compliance Committee, supporting staff training, and driving best-practice governance.

What We’re Looking For

NMHPA are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented leader with:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., risk management, quality assurance, governance, health, or business) OR significant experience in quality, risk, and compliance management.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and monitor quality, risk, and compliance systems.
  • Experience with or the ability to effectively learn Sentrient as a tool used at the NMHPA.
  • Oversee and coordinate NMHPA’s workplace health and safety program, policies and procedures working closely with the clinical team.
  • Experience in managing internal audits, and compliance reporting, particularly within government-funded not-for-profit (NFP) organisations.
  • Ability to assess risks, manage incident reporting systems, and oversee risk mitigation strategies to enhance organisational safety and quality.
  • Proven ability to conduct investigations, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions, including preparing clear, evidence-based reports.
  • Experience advising senior leadership and boards, influencing a culture of continuous improvement and compliance, particularly in mission-driven organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret regulations, assess risks, and provide strategic recommendations while balancing compliance with operational and financial constraints in NFPs.
  • Strong understanding of privacy laws, data security, and confidentiality requirements in a health-related or community-based setting, ensuring ethical governance and best-practice compliance.
