About Us

The National Indigenous Employment and Training Alliance (The Alliance) is a newly established peak body representing the Indigenous employment and training sector across Australia. We exist to transform systems and drive better outcomes for our communities through evidence-based research, policy influence and capability-building initiatives.

As a start-up, we’re in build-mode – laying strong foundations, navigating ambiguity and pushing for impact. We need values-aligned leaders who are up for the challenge.

Role Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager, Research and Capability to lead this critical portfolio. This senior leadership role requires someone who can think strategically, act operationally and comfortably move between the big picture and the finer details.

You’ll be someone who thrives in ambiguity, makes sense of complexity and brings both energy and a good attitude to your work. You’ll shape the direction of our research and data functions and deliver capability programs that uplift both the Indigenous sector and our industry partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of The Alliance’s research strategy and capability programs
  • Shape and implement our Indigenous data sovereignty framework
  • Deliver and oversee Indigenous-led research and high-impact data projects
  • Design and grow capability programs that support employers and the Indigenous employment sector
  • Build and manage partnerships with universities and the private sector
  • Lead and inspire a small but growing team, embedding a collaborative, cross-functional culture

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven senior leadership experience, ideally in research, Indigenous policy, education, or capability development
  • Strong experience in delivering complex research projects with impact
  • Able to work strategically and operationally in the detail – hands-on and high-level when needed
  • A clear, thoughtful communicator with the ability to make sense of complex environments
  • Commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills
  • A positive, solutions-focused attitude and willingness to build from the ground up

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a start-up peak body driving systems change
  • Work with a passionate and values-driven team
  • Lead a core strategic function and shape the direction of research and capability in the sector
  • Competitive NFP salary: $160k per annum (excluding superannuation)
