Community Coordinator

Neuroqueer

Dear future teammate,

We’re building something special at Neuroqueer - a service run by and for neurodivergent and LGBTQIASB+ people. Our mission is to make sure people like us feel good, seen, and supported.

If you’re someone who loves keeping things organised, gives amazing customer service, and wants to feel good about the work you do, we'd love to meet you.

This is currently a hybrid role with remote and in-person work in naarm/Melbourne. If you're based in or near naarm/Melbourne, that's ideal - but we're open to the right person wherever they are in Australia.

what’s the role?

We're looking for a Community Coordinator to join us. It’s a part-time role - around 10 hours per week across two days (Tuesdays and Fridays to start), with plenty of room to grow.

You'll be the warm human that people talk to when they contact Neuroqueer by email, live chat, SMS, or phone. You'll help welcome new Community Members (that's what we call our customers), keep things moving behind the scenes, and make sure everyone who connects with us has great experience.

You'll love finding answers, advocating for people, solving problems, and juggling different types of tasks across the day to give great customer experience.

You'll work collaboratively with other team members, the people we support, and anyone else that's needed to get things done. You'll have real control over the experience people have when they're supported by us.

This is a great fit for someone who's neurodivergent or disabled themselves - we know that the skills that come from navigating complex systems, managing your own energy, and thinking differently are exactly what this role needs.

Some things you might do:

  • Respond to emails, live chats, SMS messages, and phone calls with care and curiosity
  • Welcome new Community Members from first contact through to their first appointment - making sure they feel comfortable, informed, and cared for along the way
  • Coordinate appointments and keep schedules running smoothly
  • Help with paperwork and keeping admin up-to-date
  • Explain our services, answer questions, and help people understand their options
  • Work with other team members to make sure Community Members get what they need
  • Share feedback about internal processes and documentation so things keep getting better as we grow
  • Identify risks and advocate for people who might need extra support

About you

We're looking for someone kind, thoughtful, and someone who genuinely cares about doing right by people. Someone who does the right thing - even when no one's watching, keeps things running smoothly, and treats every person they deal with - whether it's a Community Member, their support person, or another team member - with respect and warmth.

Ideally, you have:

  • A way with words - you can adapt how you communicate to suit different people and situations
  • Comfort using digital tools like email, live chat, and scheduling software (we'll show you how we use ours)
  • Experience in care coordination, customer service, dispatching or a similar area
  • Familiarity with the NDIS - plans, funding periods, bookings, and how it all connects (helpful, but not essential)
  • Experience with CRM or practice management systems (Halaxy experience is a bonus)
  • Confidence handling feedback or tricky conversations with empathy
  • You've found ways to stay on top of things that work for you
  • Comfort working remotely, independently, and reaching out when you need support
  • An NDIS Worker Screening Check and a Working with Children Check (or you're happy to get them)

What’s in it for you

  • A role that fits around your life, energy, and capacity
  • Flexible, part-time hours (around 10 hours per week) with room to grow as the business does
  • A low-pressure, high-trust environment where asking for support is genuinely welcomed
  • An affirming and inclusive culture that centres lived experience
  • The chance to shape how a growing organisation runs — your ideas, vision, and input matter here
  • Ongoing learning and development, in formats that work for you
  • Meaningful work that directly impacts people's lives for the better
  • The chance to be the person who makes someone's day easier when they really needed it

We encourage applications from people with lived experience of neurodivergence, disability, or being LGBTQIASB+, as well as First Nations folks and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

We appreciate every application and read each one with care, but we may not be able to respond to everyone individually. Please apply through the "Apply Now" button, applications sent directly via email aren't reviewed.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, we’d love to hear from you.
