Nairm Marr Djambana is a not-for-profit Aboriginal Gathering Place and Neighbourhood House that provides culturally strengthening services to the First Nations community in the Frankston area. We are a small, dedicated and fun team that are committed to the health, wellbeing and happiness of our community.

About the role

Reporting to the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Coordinator, the Aboriginal Youth Engagement Officer will promote cultural education by:

  • Supporting community members to access Nairm Marr Djambana’s events, programs and activities, enabling our clients to be active and engaged.
  • Deliver cultural programs at Nairm Marr Djambana and schools.
  • Reaching out to vulnerable young people who are disengaged from education and employment, experiencing family violence, living in out-of-home care, and/or in contact with the criminal justice system.

About you

To be our Aboriginal Youth Officer, you will:

  • Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander decent
  • Want to make a difference to Young First Nations people
  • Enjoy engaging with First Nations people and services in a culturally safe, effective and sensitive way
  • Have good time management skills
  • Relevant qualifications and/or training in Youth Work
  • Experience working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander youth
  • Experience in designing and delivering cultural programs
  • Able to travel to schools
  • Local community knowledge
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willing to undertake First Aid training
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • Current working with Children Check
