The National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) is the national peak body representing 148 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs). ACCHOs deliver comprehensive primary health care to more than half of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples nationally.

About the Role

The Senior Project Officer, Cancer supports delivery of the NACCHO Cancer Program and implementation of national cancer initiatives aligned with the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cancer Plan. The role works across key priority areas including workforce implementation, cancer screening, service improvement, stakeholder engagement, reporting, communications, and project coordination. Operating in a complex and evolving environment, it requires strong project management capability, highly developed written communication skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple workstreams and stakeholders. The role works collaboratively with ACCHOs, Affiliates, government agencies, clinicians, and key stakeholders to support culturally safe, community-led approaches that improve cancer outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Responsibilities of this role but not limited to:

  • Lead and/or coordinate Cancer Program initiatives and activities to support implementation of national cancer priorities and workforce initiatives.
  • Manage timelines, deliverables, risks, dependencies, and reporting requirements to ensure effective program delivery.
  • Develop high-quality written materials including briefs, reports, consultation summaries, governance papers, presentations, stakeholder correspondence, and executive documentation.
  • Analyse program information, stakeholder feedback, data, and emerging issues to support evidence-informed planning, implementation, and continuous improvement activities.

About You 

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in public health, project management, policy, health administration, Aboriginal health, or a related field are highly desirable.
  • Experience in project management, program delivery, or stakeholder engagement
  • Strong written communication skills, including reports, briefs, and presentations
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple workstreams
  • Experience working with ACCHOs or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health programs is highly desirable
