The National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) is the national peak body representing 148 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs). ACCHOs deliver comprehensive primary health care to more than half of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples nationally.

About the Role

This Senior Policy Advisor is high profile, fast paced and collaborative role and will suit individuals with a desire to further their policy, analytical and advocacy skills. The work is dynamic and innovative and requires a capacity for both critical thinking and creativity. The role will suit applicants with excellent written skills and the ability to think strategically to influence Government’s approach to improving health, care and social outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

Responsibilities of this role but not limited to:

  • Reviewing policy papers, submissions, published evidence and stakeholder input to formulate policy positions and recommendations
  • Develop responses to Parliamentary inquiries and a wide range of departmental and agency consultations
  • Preparing policy advice and complex correspondence for Executives, including briefings, talking points and evidence to enquiries.
  • Drafting policy frameworks and translating policy directions into program frameworks and/or implementation strategies. 

About You 

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated policy experience at a high level.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional experience in the sector, or tertiary qualification is desirable.
  • Hold a valid Working with Vulnerable People/Children clearance, or ability to obtain
  • The ability to obtain a National Police Check
