Principal Legal Officer

North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service

An important opportunity exists for a Principal Legal Officer to join our Executive Leadership Team and participate in driving the future strategic direction of the North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service (NAAFLS).

NAAFLS principally provides legal services to victims of domestic, family, community and sexual violence, as well as supporting clients through child protection matters. NAAFLS also acts in some family law matters.

The Principal Legal Officer is responsible for the delivery of quality legal services within a culturally safe and trauma informed framework. NAAFLS is an integrated legal practice, with Aboriginal case workers delivering non-legal support services alongside solicitors, ensuring clients receive a culturally appropriate and wholistic service.

With offices in Darwin, Katherine and Nhulunbuy and delivering outreach services to more than 40 remote communities, NAAFLS provides an outstanding opportunity for an experienced solicitor to take the next step in their career.

NAAFLS is part of the National Family Violence Prevention Legal Services Forum and a member of Community Legal Centres Australia. The Aboriginal corporation is almost wholly funded by the Commonwealth Government through the National Indigenous Australians Agency.

If you are interested in this exciting opportunity to make a huge difference to the lives of Aboriginal Territorians then please send us your resume and a short cover letter outlining your skills and abilities. Please note shortlisted applicants will be contacted mid-January 2024 to progress the recruitment process.
