About the job

MWRC is seeking to appoint an experienced Social Worker/Counsellor to its Strengthening Families team.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, this role will provide therapeutic case management and family support services.

You will work flexibly and collaboratively alongside a small legal team, counsellor/art therapist, family support workers and the women’s shelter staff to increase women’s safety.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary group works together to provide wrap-around support for families experiencing family and domestic violence.  

This position will be based in the central office located in Fitzroy Crossing. This position will work in the centre, and may also require work in outstations, communities and ‘on country’.

What does a typical day at MWRC look like for a Social Worker?

No two days are the same and this isn’t your usual social worker role. The role is part of a close-knit multidisciplinary team delivering a holistic family centric service.

In addition to providing social and family support to women, the role also requires you to work alongside professionals from legal and non-legal fields that deliver assistance in the areas of social work support, trauma informed counselling and Indigenous-led support in communities. 

You will coordinate the provision of culturally informed, trauma-aware intensive support and case management for women impacted by family, domestic or sexual violence in across the Fitzroy Crossing and surrounding communities in the Fitzroy Valley region.

You will receive and respond to internal and external referrals and respond to families in crisis.  You might participate in community networks and build/maintain relationships with referring agencies, key organisations, community leaders and local people relevant to social issues.

You’ll probably learn how to do much of this over a “yarn and a feed”, or while throwing a fishing line at the river.
