An opportunity exists for you to join the Moonee Valley Legal Service team as the organisation undertakes a transformative expansion. If you are passionate about working proactively to empower members of the community to access culturally responsive and accessible legal services this is the role for you.
The Moonee Valley Legal Service Inc (MVLS) is a not-for-profit organisation which commenced operation in 1985 (previously known as Essendon Community Legal Centre). The centre is a not-for-profit community service managed by a volunteer Board of Management funded primarily by the Commonwealth and State Governments through the CLSP Program. MVLS provides free legal advice, assistance and referrals to people who live, work or study within the City of Moonee Valley catchment, as well as free community legal education to organisations, services and the wider community.
The social housing lawyer will provide community members with advice on issues such as tenancy rights and responsibilities, consumer credit/debt matters and infringements. The lawyer will also work closely with MVLS’s team of community engagement officers (residents of both Flemington and Ascot Vale estates) in developing and conducting a community engagement campaign to increase the legal literacy of public housing tenants in relation to common legal issues, developing multi‐lingual community resources and building relationships with key stakeholders.

This role is to be remunerated at Level 5 (Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award2010) successful applicant may be offered 5% above award upon successful completion of probation period.
