ABOUT MOONEE VALLEY LEGAL SERVICE

The Moonee Valley Legal Service Inc (MVLS) is a not-for-profit organisation which commenced operation in 1985 (previously known as Essendon Community Legal Centre). The centre is a not-for-profit community service managed by a volunteer Board of Management funded primarily by the Commonwealth and State Governments through the CLSP Program.

MVLS provides free legal advice, assistance and referrals to people who live, work or study within the City of Moonee Valley catchment, as well as free community legal education to organisations, services and the wider community.

Our main office is in Ascot Vale at the Wingate Avenue Community Centre. We run outreaches on the Flemington public housing estate, at Moonee Valley Libraries, Cooper Street Community Centre Essendon, cohealth older persons public housing, Wintringham community housing, and Travancore Prevention and Recovery Centre (PARC).

POSITION OBJECTIVE

As Principal Lawyer, you will be required to manage and supervise a diverse team of lawyers and oversee weekly outreach clinics, night service, casework and referral services.

You will assist the community development team to create and implement the service’s community legal education and community development strategies.

You will support the Integrated Services Lead in the development of the social work and co-located services program.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking a leader who is passionate about social justice and working with the community to achieve equity and empowerment.

You must have at least five years legal practice experience and be eligible to hold a Principal Lawyer practicing certificate in Victoria.
