About MVLS

The Moonee Valley Legal Service Inc (MVLS) is a not-for-profit organisation which commenced operation in 1985 (previously known as Essendon Community Legal Centre). The centre is a not-for-profit community service managed by a volunteer Board of Management funded primarily by the Commonwealth and State Governments through the CLSP Program. MVLS provides free legal advice, assistance and referrals to people who live, work or study within the City of Moonee Valley catchment, as well as free community legal education to organisations, services and the wider community.

Position Objective

The purpose of this role is to provide an accessible and holistic legal service for individuals experiencing disadvantage by way of regular, targeted legal outreach services located in collaboration with MVLS’s partners.

Over the past twelve months MVLS has developed a number of key partnerships providing outreach legal services to ensure that it remains accessible to communities most in need. This role will be responsible for ensuring services are delivered in place based settings such as mental health treatment facilities, public housing estates, community facilities such as libraries and community organisations (family violence specialist services).

The Community Outreach lawyer will work with MVLS partners to adopt and early intervention approach to ensure community members needs are provided in a timely and targeted manner.

Key outreach locations to this project include:

• Flemington Public Housing Estates
• Moonee Valley Local Library Network
• Co-Health Older Persons Unit
• Travancore PARC

Remuneration

This role is to be remunerated at Level 5 (Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award2010) successful applicant may be offered 5% above award upon successful completion of probation period
