About Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania (MRC Tas)

Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania (MRC Tas) is a not-for-profit organisation that works alongside people from refugee and migrant backgrounds, so individuals and communities throughout lutruwita/Tasmania thrive. We provide effective, targeted and meaningful services in the South, North and Northwest of the State.

The Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) is funded by the Department of Home Affairs. The program is delivered in Tasmania by MRC Tas in collaboration with AMES Australia. The HSP has an outcomes-based delivery framework, with a renewed focus on improving English language, education and employment outcomes for humanitarian entrants. The program provides individualised client services within a needs-based case management approach. MRC Tas delivers the HSP from offices in Launceston and Glenorchy.

About the role

The HSP Support Worker’s role is to effectively build a positive rapport with HSP clients, and to assist and provide support to HSP clients to enable them to access appropriate services. This position works as a part of a team, engaging with clients, MRC Tas staff, volunteers, service providers and the community.

The successful candidate will have

  • Demonstrated experience in community services or relevant qualification and/or willing to work towards qualification.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver programs and group activities that build the skills and capacity of clients to settle and live successfully in Tasmania.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective networks with other service providers and stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Strong administrative, organisational and time management skills; including demonstrated ability to keep thorough records and report as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of or experience in the delivery of services to support humanitarian entrants or the ability to acquire. (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of or experience in dealing with community housing sector and private rental sector or the ability to acquire. (Desirable)
  • Ability to speak language relevant to new and emerging communities in Launceston. (Desirable)
