About the role

We are looking for someone with solid client-facing consulting experience, who can contribute to our work at the intersection of community wellbeing, the built environment and natural resources management.

You will have a background in geomatics or related discipline or have relevant GIS industry experience. You will be part of our small but growing team, working with leading applied scientists and engineers across the Alluvium Group.

Using your critical thinking and technical skills, you will help our internal teams and clients tackle Australia’s social and environmental challenges. We provide advice to a range of clients including public sector agencies, private industry, and not-for-profit organisations.

You will provide technical recommendations and solutions to multidisciplinary projects including development and deployment of digital solutions. You will create workflows (and the automation of) for data processing, spatial analysis and data analytics, spatial data management and create interactive web map application and dashboards for data visualisation.

You are a competent cartographer when required but will drive innovation in data visualisation by creating interactive digital solutions. You will embrace and contribute to a culture of learning and knowledge sharing.

You will be able to assist with report, technical document and/or proposal writing and be able to assist the team with client liaison and workshops as needed.

Skills and experience:

Essential

• A qualification degree in Geomatics or related discipline or equivalent GIS Industry experience
• 3-5 years of experience in similar GIS consulting role
• Ability to work independently and/or with minimal supervision
• Experience in working to industry best practice, and knowledge and skillsets in field data collection, data management, data processing, advanced spatial analysis, and data visualisation
• High attention to detail, ability to work with technical experts across a range of disciplines and ability to translate clients’ requirements into solutions
• A high level of written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Desktop and Online Suite of products (including ability to write Arcpy code), web application development and deployment.
• Good knowledge of geostatistics
• Introductory skills in or exposure to SQL, Python or R coding and an appetite to learn

Desirable

• Experience with QGIS and/or PowerBI
• Ability to champion and support data management functions in the business (experience with PostgreSQL Administration will be highly regarded)
