We are seeking two dedicated and compassionate Kindergarten Teachers with knowledge and experience in Trauma Informed Practice to join our team of early childhood professionals. Our sessional kindergarten classrooms are co-located amongst our beautiful 78 place long day care centre and share the same large, nature-based playground.
Our ideal candidates have kindergarten teaching experience and are passionate, eager and ready to step into a role and make a real difference in the local community. Collaboration is key and our new early childhood teachers will work alongside the centre coordinator, 2IC and Pedagogical leader to continuously provide the best quality education and care for our youngest community members.

The Opportunity
Permanent part time Kindergarten Teacher, Hopetoun Early Years Centre
- Working 25.21 hours per week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
Temporary part-time Kindergarten Teacher, Hopetoun Early Years Centre
- Temporary part time opportunity until 24 January 2025 with the possibility of extension
- Working 25.51 hours per week on Monday, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
*Working hours per week include teaching and planning time and teaching and planning days may shift in 2025
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver stimulating and engaging programs for children.
- Ensure each child's learning and development is assessed as part of an ongoing continuum of planning, documentation and evaluation.
- Provide feedback and mentoring to educator team to ensure each child's learning and development is assessed as part of an ongoing continuum of planning, documentation and evaluation.
- Understanding of Victoria's Child Safe Standards and how to apply them in daily practice.
- Ensuring all procedures required by the Education and Care Services National Act 2010, Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011, Council Policies and Procedures and Occupational, Health and Safety Guidelines are adhered to at all times.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) or equivalent degree qualification, as recognised by the Department of Education and Training and in accordance with the Education and Care National Law Act 2010 & the Education and Care National Services Regulations 2011.
- Ability to lead, implement and monitor the planning and implementation of a play-based educational program which meets the National Quality Framework (NQF), including the National Law, Act and Regulations, Service Funding Agreement and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF).
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement children's programs using contemporary theory and practice, in line with National Law Act and Regulations and associated frameworks.
- A sound understanding of relational pedagogy in theory and practice.
- Holds trauma-sensitive attitudes, including understanding that behaviours of children are expressions of their experience.
- Has a strong knowledge of trauma and its impacts, and how it may show up in work with children.
- Engages in trauma informed practice, using knowledge of trauma in work with children.
- Has worked with vulnerable communities including children and families with an asylum seeker or refugee background or children accessing Early Start Kindergarten (ESK).
- Hold a current and valid:
- Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration
- First Aid Level 2 Certificate
- CPR Certificate
- Anaphylaxis Management Certificate
- Emergency Asthma Management Certificate
How you will be supported:
- Our 2024 School Readiness Funding (SRF) provides an additional educator to work within the kindergarten program. Their presence in the program increases social and educational interactions with children through integrated teaching and learning approaches and enhances the children's learning and developmental outcomes.
- Experienced and dedicated Pedagogical leader that provides guidance and support for our service based educational leader and team of early childhood educators and teachers.
- An onsite CALD worker, MCH and Co-Health professionals to support children and families with their participation and engagement within the program.
- Access to and support from MVCC's early intervention and prevention group (EPPIG) that includes but is not limited to Team around the Family, Brief Intervention, Family Services Duty Intake, Supported Playgroup and In- Home support.
- Access and support from our PSFO (Preschool Field Officer).
- Access to ongoing professional development focused on relational pedagogy and trauma informed practice.
