Monash Children’s Hospital is one of Australia’s leading providers of integrated children’s health services, with more than 30 specialist services and programs. We have Victoria’s largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and provide leading paediatric services in many areas including Rehabilitation & Oncology. Physiotherapy at Monash Children’s Hospital provides specialised services to paediatric patients across the continuum including inpatients, outpatients and via Hospital in the Home.

The Children’s Cancer Centre (CCC) at Monash Children’s Hospital (MCH) cares for approximately 30% of Victoria’s childhood cancer patients. The CCC-MCH is also the primary treating team at Monash Health for children who are inpatients and outpatients with haematological conditions. The CCC has an ambulatory care unit that is capable of providing complex cancer care across the disease continuum and admits children with haematological and oncological conditions to the paediatric inpatient units within Monash Children’s.

Paediatric Physiotherapy at Monash Health

The physiotherapy team at Monash Children’s Hospital provides physiotherapy services to neonates, infants, children, adolescents and young adults, across a wide spectrum of clinical areas including neurology, respiratory, general paediatrics and orthopaedics.

A Day in the Life

You'll be primarily responsible for providing a dedicated physiotherapy service to MCH Children’s Cancer Centre to provide high quality assessment and intervention to all children and adolescents at diagnosis and throughout their cancer treatment.

Key to your success is the implementation of prescriptive guidelines to maintain and maximise physical performance and improve quality of life in children and adolescents with a cancer diagnosis undergoing chemotherapy.

You'll also be part of the acute ward/general paediatrics clinical team, providing care and management to infants and children on the acute wards across a wide variety of clinical areas (respiratory, orthopaedics, neurology).

In addition you'll provide supervision to Physiotherapists, Allied Health Assistants and physiotherapy students and will lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

We will support you with training opportunities to expand skills also form part of this role as opportunities arise. So that you are successful in this role you'll have exceptional attentional to detail, time management and communication skills - verbal and written.

You are a dedicated, collaborative, team player and leader who thrives in dynamic situations where there is lots of variety and scope. Your attention to detail.

This opportunity is fixed term until May 2024 to cover parental leave. We can accommodate full time hours or if you prefer part time (minimum 3 days a week) we are open to discussing this also. Whilst predominately working Monday to Friday, you will be required to participate in a late shift roster, and a weekend and public holiday roster to support the most critically unwell children within Monash Health.

What you will need:

  • Relevant physiotherapy qualification
  • Current unconditional AHPRA registration
  • Considerable paediatric clinical experience, or oncology clinical experience with transferable skills
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching, training and education
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of variety of paediatric conditions
