About Monash Health Fertility

In May 2019 an Independent Review of Assisted Reproductive Treatment by Michael Gorton AM (Gorton Review) recommended to “improve access, affordability and equity through provision of public fertility services”. Subsequently, in late 2022, Monash Health Fertility (MHF) was established to provide comprehensive reproductive healthcare services across east and southeast Victoria.

In the immediate term, high level Assisted Reproductive Treatment (ART) is provided in partnership with private provider, City Fertility. Further to this, in line with capital build and infrastructure development, all ART will be brought onsite at Monash Health Fertility’s comprehensive fertility care centre.

The service strives for excellence, with a continuous endeavour to achieve industry leading success rates, strict adherence to regulatory requirements and ethical standards, and, clear and transparent reporting. About The Role

The Lead Fertility Counsellor is responsible for the management of counselling (fertility and genetic) services within the Fertility Service and leading and developing a team of professionals committed to the highest quality standards. They are also responsible for the training, competency, and supervision of all fertility counsellors involved, and are an active participant in the delivery of specialist counselling services for patients and families undertaking fertility treatment.  

Together with the multidisciplinary leadership team, the Lead Fertility Counsellor ensures a timely, well-coordinated and patient centred fertility service for the east and southeast Victorian population.

This is a newly created, ongoing position working Monday to Friday. We also welcome applicants looking for an opportunity to job share.

About You

The successful applicant will have:

  • Sound knowledge of fertility counselling service standards  
  • A passion and drive to deliver excellent patient care  
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to build professional relationships and demonstrate empathy to patients  
  • Full membership OR be eligible for full membership of the Australian and New Zealand Infertility Counsellors Association (ANZICA).
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in the management of patients with infertility.
  • Evidence of a minimum of 10-hours of engagement in ongoing professional development in the field of ART and infertility counselling over 12 months.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, committed to developing self and others  

If you are a psychologist, you must have:

  • Masters or Doctoral Degree in Psychology
  • General Registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Minimum of five years practice at a P2 level
  • Hold an area of practice endorsement (Psychology Board of Australia)

If you are a social worker, you must have:

  • Bachelor of Social Work or Masters Social Work Qualifying OR Masters of Social Work, OR equivalent as assessed and approved by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Met eligibility for ordinary membership of AASW, with written evidence of eligibility required for overseas qualifications
  • Completion of a post graduate qualification in a relevant field
  • Accredited Social Worker and/or Accredited Mental Health Social Worker: As approved by the AASW

On a personal level, you will be:

  • Highly organised and able to capably manage multiple competing priorities  
  • A consultative and collaborative problem solver  
  • Adaptable, being able to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team  
  • Aware of own values and beliefs surrounding healthcare and able to identify and respect an alternative view
