MND Australia is the national peak body of state organisations that support those living with and impacted by motor neurone disease (MND). Since 1993, we have been the voice for the MND community. We work collaboratively with our member organisations, the state MND Associations, to inform, influence and raise awareness and understanding of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) at a national level to improve care and to advance research to ultimately end MND.
The Position
The Executive Director, Research oversees the implementation of MND Australia’s Research Strategy and Research Funding Program. The position promotes MND research, collaboration and outcomes, as well as drive strategic research partnerships and research funding. The position manages the Data, Technology and Innovation Manager as well as the communications and administration relating to research.
Key Responsibilities
- To effectively and efficiently manage MND Australia's research funding program to achieve the organisation's research objectives and in collaboration with the Board, Research Committee, Grant Review Panel and research community
- To oversee the implementation of MND Australia’s Research Strategy, and the development and implementation of relevant policies
- To drive strategic partnerships and initiatives for example the Collective, a CRC, MRFF Mission advocacy, data sharing initiatives
- To develop relationships and partnerships to grow revenue for research funding
- To actively promote the MND Research Program as well as grant funded projects, and to share research insights with people living with MND and the broader community
- Provide day-to-day management for the Data, Innovation and Technology Manager, and advice and support to the MND Australia Business Manager and Communications Team.
Position Criteria
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (PhD desirable)
- Proven communication, collaboration and negotiation skills
- Experience with industry, philanthropy and/or government relationship management
- Demonstrated understanding of the clinical aspects of MND and/or MND research
- Experience in research governance and administration
- Financial management experience

Position Type
Reporting to the CEO, this is an ongoing position, with flexibility around either fulltime or 0.8FTE. The position will be based in the office in Canberra.
