About the role

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals, otherwise known as “Locals”, act as a front door to the mental health service system and provide a continuum of care and support. Each Mind-led Local has a consortium approach that includes major Health Services, specialist services and services that have deep roots in local communities. 

We are seeking a dedicated and influential Lived Experience Workforce Practice Lead for a fixed term, fulltime (38 hours per week) opportunity until July 31 2026. You will connect and work alongside the Service Operations Manager, Team Leader Lived Expertise, Peer Practitioners and other Operational Leaders to ensure the voice of lived experience is weaved into the fabric and culture of each Local.

Key responsibilities

  • Be grounded in the discipline of Lived Expertise, drawing from your own lived experience, informed by a commitment to social change, human rights, dignity and choice.
  • Develop strategies using a co-design approach that scope and build the peer work practice in the Locals.
  • Listen to the needs of the lived experience workforce and broader workforce at each Local to navigate the practice development process.
  • Facilitate development activities in accordance with the Lived Experience Strategy, Peer Work Framework, Model of Peer Work and specifically the Locals Service Model.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, and lived experience workforce to build effective working relationships that lead to successful implementation of the aims of the role.

What you’ll bring

  • Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/or Advanced training.
  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by Mind.
  • Ability to share learnings from your personal story in an appropriate and purposeful manner to support, empower, speak about the times of hopelessness and the importance of hope, and support the recovery of service users.
  • Proven experience with mentoring and coaching people with lived experience and/or trained to provide consumer perspective supervision or family/carer perspective supervision is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate groups of people, and create connections and build relationships and community.
  • A valid driver’s licence is required, as travel between sites may be necessary to fulfil job responsibilities.
