About the role
The Community Mental Health Practitioner (CMHP) Peer Practitioner is responsible for delivery of person centred services to clients, families & carers in line with Mind’s model of Recovery Oriented Practice and underpinned by the values of Mind Australia.
The CMHP Peer Practitioner provides a group program based on peer support and learning delivered through Mind Recovery College and works as part of a multidisciplinary team, with lived experienced of mental ill health and recovery being the unique specialist lens that they bring.
Duties
- Utilise your own lived experience of mental ill health and recovery to inform your work and to support and empower the recovery of clients
- Engage with customers to fully understand their need for assistance
- Work with clients to develop a learning plan to build skills and achieve goals through attendance at co-designed, education based peer developed groups
- Facilitating, coordinating and co-designing evidence based groups that meet the needs of clients and support families and carers
- Making linkages and building relationships including referral pathways, that support connectedness for clients in the program and the community
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health related field as designated by Mind.
- Lived experience of mental ill health and/or recovery AND the ability and willingness to use this to inform your work and the work of the team
- Experience and expertise in working directly with people with mental health issues, complex needs, and with their families and carers
- The ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Understanding of available community services, networks and supports
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
