About the role

Headspace in partnership with Mind aims to promote and facilitate improvements in the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young people aged 12-25 years residing in the North Eastern suburbs. Services in this youth friendly space are delivered across four core streams - primary health care, mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD) and social/vocational to improve access for young people to mental health programs as well as ensuring better co-ordination between service providers.

We are seeking a highly-motivated, experienced Clinical Educator for a 12 month fixed term, part time (15.2 hours/week) opportunity in the Greensborough area. As the Senior Clinician you will supervise, educate and mentor students and graduates participating in the Headspace Early Career Program. Leading effective practice, you will have oversight of the student and graduate clinical work and assist in translating mental health skills training into practice.

Key responsibilities

  • Coach and monitor graduates and students on effective practice - working with young people to achieve their goals, providing support to families and carers, undertaking planning and delivery of group work, and working with service providers.
  • Lead and guide students and graduates to undertake assessments, develop clinical and psychosocial treatment plans, complete risk assessments, and utilise recovery-orientated practice techniques.
  • Provide suitable guidance and clinical supervision to support continuing education across mental health, alcohol and other drugs, employment and physical health.
  • Educate graduates and students to comply with and understand clinical governance structures, policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with Universities regarding development of student’s clinical skills and complete placement assessments of the students’ progress. 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary degree qualifications in Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, or other health-related field and hold current registration with AHPRA, AASW or Mental Health Accreditation.
  • Previous experience working with young people, adults and families with mental health and/or contextual challenges, i.e. family violence, homelessness, AOD, protective issues.
  • Proven ability to implement and mentor recovery-oriented frameworks and practices.
  • Capability to lead, coach and provide supervision to students and staff to achieve high quality service outcomes and meet service delivery requirements.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, tertiary institutions and key stakeholders.
