The Business

Mimal Land Management Aboriginal Corporation (Mimal) is an Indigenous-owned organisation managing an Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) across over 18,000 square kilometres in south-central Arnhem Land. With strong ties to more than 20 clan groups, Mimal delivers fire, weed, and feral animal management, working in partnership with Traditional Owners. Funded through the Working on Country program and carbon credit contracts, Mimal’s operations are grounded in a two-toolbox approach, combining Indigenous knowledge with western science.

The organisation has a culturally safe and supportive work environment, with a commitment to mentoring and training local Indigenous staff to care for country, culture, and community.

The Opportunity

As the Women’s Ranger Coordinator, you will lead the on-ground implementation of land management activities, provide day-to-day planning and coordination, and support the growth of a skilled and empowered women’s ranger team.

The role's is location Darwin, Northern Territory with work based in remote Arnhem Land.

Key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily ranger work programs aligned with contract obligations
  • Deliver practical, on-the-job training for women rangers
  • Support fire, weed, and feral animal management strategies
  • Maintain ranger base, plant, and equipment
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager and Traditional Owners
  • Mentor rangers through a culturally responsive, leadership-focused approach

About You

To succeed in this role, you’ll be a resilient and adaptable team leader with a passion for land management and community development.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience managing land management teams or ranger programs
  • Skills in fire, weed, and feral animal management
  • Proven ability to work effectively with Aboriginal communities
  • Leadership and mentoring capability, especially for Indigenous women
  • High-level organisational and planning skills
  • Sound judgement and initiative to work independently
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Competence with Microsoft Office and general IT systems
  • A current driver’s license, 4WD skills, and basic vehicle maintenance experience
  • Willingness to live and work in a dry (alcohol-free) remote community

Desirable:

  • Qualifications in land management, conservation, or training and assessment
  • Knowledge of Arnhem Land’s biodiversity and relevant legislation
  • Experience with carbon credit schemes and IPA processes
  • Cultural awareness and experience working with remote Aboriginal communities
