Micah Projects is a community based not-for-profit organisation with a vision to create justice and respond to injustice at the personal, social, and structural levels in church, government, business, and society. Micah Projects provides a range of support and advocacy services to individuals and families.

The Family Pathway Program is a service available to families that are currently experiencing adolescent-to-parent violence (APV) in the Brisbane Region by providing intake, assessment, case management and psycho-education to families experiencing APV. The Family Pathway Program is designed to support female protective care givers whilst assisting young males using violence in the home to understand their use power, control and abuse, arising from the impacts of experiencing domestic and family violence within their family and home.

The Family Pathways Program has partnered with Carinity Talera who are funded to provide long-term therapeutic supports to families referred by the Micah Projects Family Pathways Program

The Women's Advocate will work as part of the Family Pathways Program, supporting young people and protective caregivers impacted by domestic and family violence. The role focuses on addressing adolescent-to-parent violence (APV) and providing comprehensive support and advocacy to families in crisis.

There are 2 opportunities – 1 x permanent full time, 1 x fixed term full time with conditions and salary at Level 5 of the SCHADS Award.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a culture of respect, safety, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety planning in collaboration with protective caregivers.
  • Provide person-centred, therapeutic support and psychoeducation to address APV.
  • Facilitate psychoeducation groups and individual sessions for protective caregivers.
  • Advocate for and coordinate case management services, focusing on safety and support.
  • Engage with stakeholders and collaborate with government and non-government agencies.
  • Maintain high-quality case notes and support plans.
  • Empower participants to access resources and services within the community.
  • Contribute to a safe workplace in compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant certificate, diploma, or tertiary qualification and extensive experience.
  • Experience in crisis intervention, risk assessment, and safety planning.
  • Knowledge of domestic and family violence, including trauma-informed approaches.
  • Understanding of adolescent-to-parent violence and ability to provide psychoeducational interventions.
  • Ability to work with diverse cultural groups and apply culturally sensitive practices.
  • Strong communication skills and IT competencies.
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working with adolescent-to-parent violence.
  • Training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI).
  • Completed Safe and Together CORE Training.
