Job Description

BDVS is the specialist domestic violence service for the Brisbane metropolitan region. BDVS is funded by the Department of Justice and Attorney General to provide free and confidential services to adults and children who have been impacted by domestic and family violence. BDVS has a focus on achieving safety and stability for the individuals and families that we support.

As a Domestic and Family Violence Specialist you will be an integral part of the BDVS First Response to women and people impacted by domestic and family violence, be responsible for undertaking risk assessments and conducting intake’s of incoming referrals, both from women and other services. Work with the Team Leader to manage and triage incoming referrals and allocate referrals & actions to the team.

There 3 x permanent full time employment opportunity with conditions and salary at Level 5 of the SCHADS Award.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Referral Management: Ability to manage, triage, and allocate referrals from various sources, including the QLD Police Service, Housing, Child Safety, Corrections, and other stakeholders, for women and children experiencing domestic violence.
• Comprehensive Intake Assessments: Experience conducting thorough intake assessments, both via telephone and in-person, with the possibility of outreach responses to reduce access barriers.

• Risk and Crisis Management: Expertise in performing complex risk assessments, evaluating immediate needs, and crisis planning within tight timeframes, particularly for individuals facing high-risk situations.

• Crisis Intervention: Proven experience in working with individuals in crisis, identifying vulnerabilities, and developing safety and needs-based plans.

• Domestic Violence Expertise: Strong knowledge of current domestic and family violence theory and practice, including a gendered analysis and trauma-informed approach to support and advocacy.

• Collaboration Skills: Ability to work effectively within a case coordination model involving government and non-government agencies.

• Legislative Knowledge: Familiarity with or ability to quickly understand relevant legislation, including the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 (Section 5A Information Sharing), the Child Protection Act 1999, and the Family Law Act.
