Job Description

Family Connections is an approach developed and tested over more than 25 years in the USA. Family Connections is grounded in prevention and intervention sciences with a focus on supporting families to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors in the family environment.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Family Support & Advocacy Practitioner to work as part of the Family Connection team providing a strength based, systems-oriented approach offering in-home tailored family support approach.

This role is pivotal in supporting families experiencing severe disadvantage, complex challenges, and a high risk of escalating child protection involvement. You will contribute to a clinical trial delivering an adapted Family Connections USA model.

This is a Fixed-Term full time employment opportunity with conditions and salary at Level 4/5 of the SCHADS Award based on experience until 30/06/2026.

Desired Skills and Experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Build family capacities to keep children well and safe.
  • Use the tools and processes adapted from Family Connections USA for planned support.
  • Assist women with safety planning and coordinate consultations with Domestic Violence services as needed.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant Human Services / Community Services diploma or tertiary qualification and extensive experience, or a combination of experience, expertise, and competence.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues and an ability to assess risk using a strengths-based approach.
  • Ability to become proficient in the application of the Family Connections framework and willingness to participate in the clinical trial and evaluation of the program.
