The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) part of the Parkville Precinct and is one of Australia's leading public hospitals, providing a comprehensive range of specialist medical, surgical, and mental health services, as well as rehabilitation, aged care, specialist clinics and community programs.

Community Team 1 (CT1) provides care to consumers in Melbourne’s CBD and Inner West, managing the homeless portfolio for Royal Melbourne Hospital Mental Health Service (RMH MHS). CT1 uses the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model, offering low caseloads, outreach-based treatment, team collaboration, and intensive care, including medication management, psychosocial support, assessments, referrals, and crisis interventions.

We are seeking an experienced mental health clinician to lead Community Team 1A at RMH City Campus during the current team leader's parental leave (fixed term role). The team leader will guide the team in delivering a strengths-based, personalised model of care to improve consumer well-being and support evidence-based psychological assessments and interventions. About the role:

  • Lead and role model the delivery of evidence-based treatment and interventions, ensuring the provision of high-quality assertive outreach and care coordination of services to adults experiencing mental health issues as well as homelessness
  • Contribute to team functions including coordination and allocation of referrals, new patient assessments, recovery planning, intake and rostered activities
  • Develop partnerships and collaboration between relevant agencies and service
  • Work with a team of enthusiastic multidiscipline professionals providing assertive outreach and high-quality care to some of Melbourne’s most marginalised people
  • Develop and apply mental health interventions suitable for our consumer cohort that will assist with their recovery

About you:

Formal Qualifications

  • This is a multidisciplinary role open to Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Social Workers, Psychologists or Occupational Therapists (must hold relevant degree, registration and/or membership as per attached Position Description)

Essential

  • Extensive experience in the provision of specialist services in public mental health settings with a strong focus on local communities and inter-agency specific knowledge
  • Interested in working with homeless consumers directly in the community
  • Knowledge of effective evidence-based interventions appropriate to low prevalence disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, personality disorder, relapse prevention and substance abuse
  • Leadership skills including initiative, advanced communication skills and the capacity and willingness to further develop these
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
