The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) part of the Parkville Precinct and is one of Australia's leading public hospitals, providing a comprehensive range of specialist medical, surgical, and mental health services, as well as rehabilitation, aged care, specialist clinics and community programs.
The Orygen Specialist Program (OSP) at RMH Mental Health provides early intervention and specialist mental health care for young people aged 12 to 25 with severe and complex conditions. Working alongside Orygen and four headspace services, OSP’s multidisciplinary teams offer tailored support including assessment, crisis intervention, therapy, medication, family support, and vocational and educational assistance. Targeted clinical streams address psychosis, mood, personality, substance use, eating, and neurodevelopmental disorders, while a forensic stream supports youth in and transitioning from custodial care. The Helping Young People Early (HYPE) stream provides an evidence-based early intervention service for young people experiencing issues associated with severe personality disorder and/or other co-occurring mental health difficulties. The HYPE Stream aims to increase adaptive relationships; improve educational and vocational functioning; reduce the psychopathology; and promote safety health and wellbeing. The HYPE Steam model of Relational Clinical Care comprises assertive clinical case management, general psychiatric care, individual psychotherapy (using Cognitive Analytic Therapy; CAT), family work and other supports such as vocational support. Clinicians within HYPE are provided with CAT training and supervision and may be involved in knowledge translation and research activities.
The Clinical Stream Leader is a key leadership position within OSP. The incumbent is responsible for the provision of clinical leadership, training and supervision of a multidisciplinary team specialising in the provision of comprehensive case management and psychological therapy to clients attending the HYPE Clinical Stream.
