About the program

We were proud to launch our Recovery Coach program in 2020. Funded under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), this program provides support for people living with a diagnosis of psychosocial disability – which can arise from a mental illness and significantly impact a person’s day-to-day living and ability to participate in community life.

About the role

This role sits within Melbourne City Mission's (MCM) Disability Division, working towards a vision for communities where people have equal rights, choice, and opportunity.

Recovery Coaches focus closely on the individual needs of each participant, taking the time to build strong rapport and develop a deep understanding of that person’s circumstances. The coach then works collaboratively with the participant to develop plans and strategies that cater to their individual needs – and assist them to live a full and meaningful life. Participants set their own goals and choose which community settings they wish to engage with.

You will support this vision by:

  • Building individual capacity and enhance choice and control in the provision of high-quality Recovery Coaching to people with Psychosocial disability.
  • Using your knowledge of the local community to create opportunities for increased participation for people we support.
  • Working in a respectful way with people with complex support needs, their families, carers and community.
  • Understanding the changing disability landscape and implementing support consistent with the aims, principles and standards set by Melbourne City Mission (MCM) and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
