The Opportunity.
Massimo’s Mission, is an Australian Genomics Health Futures funded clinical and research program into childhood brain white matter disorders or leukodystrophies. As a Research Officer you will be focused on developing and applying bioinformatic approaches to identify the genetic cause of disease in rare disease patients that remain undiagnosed after clinical genomic testing. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including clinicians, bioinformaticians and wet lab researchers. The role will include analysis and interpretation of WGS, transcriptomic and long read data derived from Australian and international cohorts of persistently undiagnosed leukodystrophy patients.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Lead research projects
- Analyse and interpret genomic data from patients with rare genetic disorders
- Assist with the development of experimental strategies for functional validation of candidate variants
- Conduct ethical research at the highest level of integrity and in line with the Australian Code for Responsible Conduct of Research and MCRI policies
- Write and submit grant and ethics approval applications
- Identifies ways to improve data collection/quality utilised by the team/group or research
- Foster relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
- Is engage in the campus culture including professional activities, membership of campus committees and contributing to/attending internal/external campus conferences and seminars
You Demonstrate.
- Relevant PhD/Doctoral qualification and relevant postdoctoral experience
- Demonstrated understanding of Mendelian disorders and a deep understanding of the underlying genetic and biological concepts
- Demonstrated experience in the analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequence data
- Evidence of advanced programming skills in Python and BASH
- Demonstrated capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent time management, organisational and analytical problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in knowledge sharing, development, mentoring and support of employees and students
On Offer.
- Full time role with flexibility of 0.8 FTE for the right candidate.
- 3 year contract
- Salary Range $93,639 - $100,513 pa + super + salary packaging
